Its great news for millions of Game of Thrones fans with news that there is an alternate ending for the series finale. Over two million fans had signed a petition at change.org requesting the makers of the Emmy award-winning series to remake the finale.

These revelations were made by actor Kristofer Hivju who played Tormund Giantsbane; a renowned wildling leader in the HBO fantasy series. Speaking to Metro UK, he confirmed that they shot an alternate ending but failed to give more specific details.

"We shot an alternative ending," he said. He further added that the shooting was mostly for fun and he didn’t have permission to divulge more information about the alternative ending.

CNN, a sister company to HBO, contacted an HBO representative who was categorical that they do not have any information about an alternative Game of Thrones finale. The representative suggested that actor Kristofer Hivju might have been joking.

Controversial Finale

The controversial season 8 finale concluded with Jon Snow, whom everyone had thought would ascend to the Iron throne returning to the nights watch and venturing beyond the wall after killing Daenerys Targaryen. Sansa Stark became King of the North while his younger brother Bran Stark was crowned King of the Six Kingdoms.

Though the series finale broke HBO viewership records with 19.3 million viewers, social media and review sites were ablaze the following mornings with critical reviews of the much-awaited finale titled "The Iron Throne”. it received a 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes and was rated at 4.5 out of 10 on IMDB.

Game of Thrones Spin-off

Even though HBO later announced a spin-off series, Casey Bloys, HBO’s President of Programming said this announcement was not as a result of the finale backlash. He added that the online petition was proof of how the show had gained a loyal and passionate following. Game of Throne finished its 8-season run by scooping 12 Emmy Awards this year.
